Introduction
Thank you for choosing Collegiate Movers! We have over 15 years of combined experience in the moving business and are committed to serving you as efficiently as possible. We have been serving the Roanoke Valley for four years now. Our athletic, college age staff is trained and dedicated to the success of each and every household and commercial move we take on.

We are excited to have the opportunity to demonstrate our moving abilities! This moving guide will help you prepare for the day of your move so everything will proceed smoothly. We want the day of your move to be a positive experience as we help you commute to your new location.

Money Saving Tips
Since our moves are based on an hourly rate, anything you can do to prepare for our arrival that will save us time will save you money.

  • Break down beds
  • Disconnect washer, dryer and fridge from walls and water supplies
  • Have all small items and electronics boxed, with tops sealed
  • Detach mirrors from furniture and walls
  • Disassemble any items that must be broken down for moving

    Moving Day
The day we arrive, our crew members will introduce themselves and then do a walkthrough of your home. This is to get an idea of what items might need special consideration and determine which items will be moved and which will be staying in the residence. We will then begin loading and packing the truck making sure that all items are padded and secure. After loading, the crew may take a short lunch break. Rest assured this time will not be added to your bill! After lunch we will travel to the destination where the same crew that loaded your items will unload them. Another walk through will be performed in order to determine which room each item will be placed. Your items will then be unloaded and placed in the room that suits your needs. A final walk through will be performed so that furniture may be rearranged if necessary. After this is completed, your bill will be calculated and your move will be complete! Any comments or suggestions you have are always welcome.

Please have all walkways and driveways
clear of obstructions including snow and ice.

  • The unloading access at the destination

    Out of Town moves:
  • The weight of the items to be moved
  • The total driving distance required
  • Any items that require a surcharge

    Surcharges
The following items carry an additional charge, due to the intensive labor required.

  • Pianos
  • Jacuzzis
  • Safes
  • Hot Tubs
  • Swingsets
  • Big Screen TVs

    Packing Tips

    Materials
Tape, packing paper and boxes of various sizes can be obtained directly from Collegiate Movers.

    Personal Electronics
Pack valuable electronic equipment in original cartons when available. Otherwise, use strong, corrugated boxes and place protective padding on the bottom of the carton. Place additional padding between the carton and the computer or video recorder. Wrap cords separately; label to identify usage and place in a plastic bag away from delicate surfaces. Non-detachable cords should also be wrapped.

    Packing Pointers
The list of individual household items is endless however; most can be packed by following our packing pointers

  • Mark all boxes by room, contents, and if contents are fragile
  • Heavier items should be placed at the bottom of the box
  • Try to keep boxes to a max of 50 lbs.
  • Delicate glassware and stemware should be wrapped placed in an upright position
  • Do NOT overload bureau drawers and be sure to remove all ammunition and firearms
  • Pack no more then 24-30 canned goods per box
  • Secure or Remove pendulum in large clocks
  • Hang drapes and bedding over crossbars in wardrobe cartons, or pack folded in clean cartons
  • Remove bulbs, harps, shades, and roll up cords from lamps and pack with bedding or wrap separately and place upright in clean, tissue-lined carton
  • Seal medicine caps with masking tap and be sure to transport the medicine you need with you.
  • Wrap small mirrors, pictures, paintings, and frames and place on edge in boxes
